Connecting a Windows 7 PC to a Wireless Printer

Wireless technology is simply the norm of the day. We’d hardly prefer our rooms to be scattered with long entangled wires that connect various peripheral devices to our PCs. And talking about the printer- a peripheral to which we connect multiple computers in offices and shops, the need for wireless connectivity is all the more. All PCs on a network can share a single printer without a print server or USB cables, provided the said device is wireless.

In this post, the Windows 7 help team gives you a comprehensive account on how to connect your wireless printer to a Windows 7 network.

How to Connect a Wireless Printer to a Windows 7 Network

As you might know well, Windows platforms come with a host of in-built wizards that let you connect various peripheral devices to your PC, without having to rely on third-party programs. As the Windows 7 help team says, the same applies for your wireless printer as well. The following steps are in order for the same:

  1. Commence the procedure by turning on your printer. Before proceeding, do ensure that it is configured to connect wirelessly. For this, you may go through the user guide of the device for information regarding its attributes and specs.

  2. You may now click on the “Start” button and choose the option “Devices and Printers” from the right pane.
  3. In the Devices and Printers window, click on “Add a Printer”, whereby you can see any printers currently connected to your PC. Ensure that the new printer is not in the list.
  4. Now choose “Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer“. It may take a couple of minutes for the new printer to be detected. Once found, choose the printer you wish to connect and click on “Next”. If the required driver is present in your OS, you may start off with the installation; else, you’ll have to install the proprietary software that came with the printer.
  5. Assign a name for your new printer and click on “Next” to initiate the installation. As the Windows 7 help team points out, you needn’t perform any additional steps to share the printer with other PCs, as it would be accessible for other users, provided it’s integrated with the network.

Well, that’s it! You’ve successfully integrated your new wireless printer with your Windows 7 network. For any further assistance, do get in touch with Windows 7 support.
